The Art of South Asia
London Summer Intensive

Programmed in conjunction with Christie's exhibition The Meeting Ground: Scenes from the KNMA Collection, this immersive three-day course offers a rich introduction to the histories, traditions, and contemporary conversations shaping South Asian art.

Designed around a series of lectures, discussions and close-looking sessions, this programme offers participants an informed introduction to the histories, traditions and contemporary debates that continue to shape one of the world’s most intellectually rich and visually compelling artistic fields.

Across the course, participants will consider how craft, material knowledge, patronage, colonial history, diaspora and transnational exchange have influenced the making and reception of South Asian art. The programme also looks at how artists, curators, collectors and institutions continue to rethink questions of identity, geography, memory and belonging today.

This course is designed for collectors, art-world professionals, students and engaged learners who wish to deepen their understanding of South Asian art. No prior specialist knowledge is required, only curiosity and an interest in art and its wider contexts.
